Manifesto
What is architecture? In simple, architecture is forever. Meaning it is, has always been, and will always be one of mankind's greatest innovations. Without architecture we, as a society, would not thrive. Architecture carries both, economical and emotional ties. It is the compromising medium between art and science...Architecture is a way of life...Architecture is forever...
As a firm believer that bigger is not always better, Joan believes that the architectural design should be led by the experience of the space, rather than the extravagance of the final product. Allowing logic and ones opinion of beauty to cloud the imagination can be disastrous to a potential project; some of the better known and internationally beloved structures needed a great deal of imagination. Only after imagination has cultivated the design can logic come into play.
Site, context, people, and economy are also factors that Joan believes should always be taken into account when taking on a potential project. Will the design fit with the landscape or will it become an encumbrance? What do the people think of the effect the potential project might have on the town/city? Is it a reasonable and cost effective design that will minimize economical impact and allow for profitability?
Mr. Olivero also believes in the implementation of sustainable design. He tends to favor passive heating and cooling strategies such as thermal massing, geothermal heating, evaporative cooling, stratification, and buffer zones. He also prefers to design in a manner that would allow for the most natural light to enter a structure.
